Laura ~ Can I share this with a bigger audience? I am the Director of Our Lady of the Pines Retreat Center in Fremont, Ohio, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. Can we share this with our followers (with appropriate credit given)? I am also a mom of four; I am tired of feeling like nothing is going to change with the gun violence in our country - especially in our 'safe spaces' such as schools and churches. Thank you for your efforts and for considering this request. heidiosborne@pinesretreat.org
Yes, of course, Heidi - thank you for asking. All the posts are public and can be shared widely. Thanks for sharing it with your followers. Right there with you in utter frustration & refusal to accept that nothing will change.
Heidi, I have been to a writing retreat there and I’m so deeply moved by he scared space. My family (four kids, too) and I now live in a home in Iowa that was once home to a group of sisters that were teachers and part of the Sisters of Mercy. 💛 I feel their heart and their strength inside these walls.
Kayla ~ Wow! Such a small world; I love that you are still connected to the Sisters of Mercy through the house you live in. Blessings on you and your family!
I love the idea of organizing a prayer walk/vigil but it also feels a little overwhelming. Anybody have suggestions for a basic outline I could follow that would be meaningful? And a good location that would be impactful and reach across faith traditions?
Here's one example: Ceasefire Walks for Peace in the Diocese of Oakland. I bet the contacts listed here might be able to share their model of an ecumenical prayer service, peace walk & time of reflection: https://oakdiocese.org/ceasefire-walks-for-peace.
I am so glad you asked this, Holly! The reader who suggested it on my Instagram today actually tagged her friend who does this regularly in Indianapolis. I asked him if he'd be willing to share any resources he has on this, and he shared this: "It's a practice used in major cities around the country by the Ten Point Coalition. My group (@northshadeland) partners with the Indianapolis Point Coalition who conducts public safety walks most days of the week in some of the most hard hit areas of Indianapolis." I found this news story about their public safety walks while researching more about the group (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nli4ISwk12c) but I'd love to find some prayer-focused resources for doing this kind of walk, too. Hoping to have more to share soon. I know there are groups who have long histories with prayer walks, so I'm hopeful we can add more resources to this soon.

This video about their 10 years of peace walks is amazing btw, if you want to watch something uplifting! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfLbBKtql6Q)
